As the primary teaching site of both the Internal Medicine and Transitional Year Residency Programs, all inpatient Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and most Surgical and Subspecialty rotations will be located at Redmond Regional Medical Center. In addition, an ambulatory center on the Medical Center campus will support residents’ ambulatory and continuity clinics. In January of 2019, the Internal Medicine Residency Program was awarded full 10-Year Continued Program Accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, as was Redmond Regional which was awarded full 10-Year Continued Institutional Accreditation.
Redmond Regional Medical Center is fully accredited by The Joint Commission, has over 245 participating physicians in more than 30 medical and surgical specialties and a support staff of approximately 1,200 associates. Redmond has one of the highest Case Mix Indexes in the region, an indicator of the acuity and breadth of patient conditions, which rivals most quarternary referral centers. As an adult-only acute care facility, Redmond’s active bed number of 230 is deceptive, being equivalent to most 350-400 bed facilities, which count pediatrics, obstetrics/new born and psychiatry services in their bed numbers.
Redmond offers a variety of inpatient and outpatient programs, many of which are unique to the Northwest Georgia region. It is Northwest Georgia’s ONLY full-service heart hospital with leading-edge Cardiologists and Cardiothoracic surgeons – is the only hospital within a 40 mile radius that performs open-heart surgery, has the only Electrophysiology Lab, six operating Cardiac Cath Labs and has Joint Commission Advanced Certification in Heart Failure Care. Redmond recently became one of only 78 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry–Get With the Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award. It is a Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care Chest Pain Center with PCI cycle IV accreditation. Specialized cardiac procedures are performed at Redmond, including TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement), MAZE and ablation treatment for Atrial Fibrillation, Coronary Atherectomy, Angiojet and Rotoblator as well as many others.
Redmond is a Level III Trauma center and has specialty certification by the American Heart/American Stroke Association with a “Stroke-GOLD PLUS” and “Target Stroke” Honor Roll designation. Multiple times Redmond Regional has been presented with the highly coveted Quality and Patient Safety Award as well as the Circle of Excellence Award – both by the Georgia Partnership for Health and Accountability. Redmond also again earned an “A” grade from The Leapfrog Group, an elite national ratings program which is the gold standard for patient safety and is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading patient safety experts. Only 30% of more than 2500 hospitals across the US receive an “A” grade.
It also offers a designated Inpatient Oncology Unit and Outpatient Oncology Infusion Center. Additionally, Redmond operates a Primary Care Network, Wound Care Center, Occupational Health Network, Same-day Surgery Center, Women’s Center, and Inpatient and Outpatient Rehabilitation Units.
Redmond’s parent company, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), was named for the TENTH consecutive year in 2019 by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies®. HCA is one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services, comprising locally managed facilities that include over 185 hospitals and 118 surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom. Eighty-five percent of HCA’s hospitals reporting core measure performance data to The Joint Commission are on TJC’s current list of Top Performers on Key Quality Measures®, Redmond being one of them, as compared to 36.9 percent of all TJC-accredited hospitals reporting data. Redmond is part of the TriStar Health System (a division of HCA), the region’s largest most comprehensive healthcare provider with 18 hospitals and 10 ambulatory surgery centers in Tennessee, South Central Kentucky, and Northern Georgia.
HCA is also the largest provider of Graduate Medical Education in the United States, offering hundreds of training programs to over 3000 residents and fellows throughout the country. As an enterprise, HCA is committed to developing programs that contribute to the advancement of both community-based and academic medical education programs of all types, training physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and all ancillary specialties.
