WELCOME. As the Program Director of Redmond Regional Medical Center’s Transitional Residency, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our program.
We are fortunate to have the benefit of the outstanding faculty and infrastructure provided by Redmond Regional Medical Center’s successful Internal Medicine Residency and the over forty-five year history of innovative, state of the art care provided by the physicians and staff at Redmond. It is our desire to provide you with a first post-graduate year that is an outstanding launching point for the next steps in your education and career. We intend to facilitate your entry into the specialty program of your choice, whether it is in Anesthesiology, Radiology, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or further training in Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine.
This Transitional Year Residency is not intended to provide you with a complete post-graduate experience to prepare for the practice of medicine, although it may be important preparation for a career in Administration, Research, Public Health, or Military Medicine. It is our desire to provide you with a strong foundation in clinical medicine within a system known for its dedicated, innovative, and compassionate care.
Our affiliations with The Medical College of Georgia and with The Harbin Clinic, Georgia’s oldest and largest Physician owned and directed Physician group, provides robust diverse, and exceptionally able faculty dedicated to your educational experience. The members of the medical staff and faculty at Redmond Regional Medical Center have a national reputation for excellence, and as such, have many strong relationships with the leaders in their specialties. These relationships place them in a unique position to help you in making the successful move to the next stage in your specialty training.
We are exceptionally blessed to live and work in a community that has a diverse economy, but is uniquely committed to higher education, with four Colleges and Universities, a campus of the Medical College of Georgia, outstanding public secondary education, and a private college preparatory school with an outstanding national and international reputation. In this atmosphere artistic and cultural opportunities abound. Our location, topography, and climate are an outstanding asset, with easy access to the recreational opportunities of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the urban attractions of Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Birmingham.
We are genuinely excited to have you consider The Transitional Year Residency Program at Redmond Regional Medical Center and we invite you to visit Rome and see for yourself the outstanding education opportunities and quality of life that we enjoy here.
Warmest Personal Regards,
John S. Kirkland, MD, PhD, FACS, FAHA
